Alex Trebek the host of Jeopardy! has died at the age of 80


Alex Trebek the host of Jeopardy! and one of the greatest game show hosts of all time has died at age of 80 after battling stage IV pancreatic cancer. Alex Trebek was the host of Jeopardy! since 1984 but before he became the host of the popular game show he hosted a number of different game shows like his first game show The Wizard of Odds in 1973, High Rollers in 1974, Double Dare in 1976, The $128,000 Question in 1978 and Pitfall and Battlestars in 1981. But Trebek finally struck gold when he was hired for the job as the host for the revival of Jeopardy! Jeopardy! was originally aired from 1964-1975 with Art Fleming as the host. Executives wanted Fleming to come back and host but he declined so Trebek got the job. And for almost 36 years Alex Trebek became a household name and became infused into people's brains. He also had cameo appearances in TV shows like The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, Cheers and Orange Is The New Black. He was even parodied in Saturday Night Live by actor Will Ferrell in the well known Celebrity Jeopardy skits on the show. In March of 2019 Alex Trebek announced his diagnosis as fans of the famous game show were stunned to hear the news. Trebek holds the world record for most game show episodes hosted by the same presenter and has won 6 daytime emmy awards for outstanding game show host and a lifetime achievement award. He also became the first person to host 3 game shows at once in 1991 and those shows were Jeopardy!, Classic Concentration and To Tell The Truth. He even has stars on the Hollywood and Canadian Walk of Fame. Alex Trebek leaves behind his wife Jean and their adult two children Emily and Matthew and another daughter Nicky from a previous marriage. R.I.P. Alex Trebek.
